She’s Got Issues
Over a lifetime women experience our share of gender based injustices. Every day we become more aware of the many personal stories of women dealing with the inequities of the female experience. The issues are broad and globally based and at the same time, narrow and personal to every woman who experiences them. Whether it’s the social imbalance of “appropriate” jobs in the military, the political conflict of unequal representation in Washington, D.C., limited nationwide access to reproductive healthcare, global access to education for girls, the issues of workplace pay equality, worldwide sexual safety from rape and kidnapping, or the smaller private battles women wage within themselves for domestic equality and against commercially based body and beauty expectations, the issues of injustice take their toll.
In this exhibition entitled “She’s Got Issues,” Visual Comment from Four Generations of Female Artists, we give voice to these struggles. “She’s Got Issues.” brings together twenty-five female visual artists from four generations who have created artworks in a broad range of media and genre that give voice to the theme. A catalog will be available at the show documenting the fifty works created. Join us for this Opening Reception on June 13th, 2014 at High Wire Arts Gallery Space, 6:00 pm.
